After Arunachal leg, Brahmaputra rafting expedition reaches Guwahati

A team of the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports reached Guwahati after completing the Arunachal Pradesh leg of the Brahmaputra River rafting expedition.

Guwahati, Assam, February 7 (HBTV): A team of the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) reached Guwahati after completing the Arunachal Pradesh leg of the Brahmaputra River rafting expedition.

This expedition also marks the first attempt to raft the entire Brahmaputra stretch spanning Arunachal (310-km) and Assam (640-km) till its entry to Bangladesh.

The Brahmaputra, known as Siang in Arunachal, is revered for its fierceness and unpredictability. The team of NIMAS has it by raft and has now reached Guwahati. Their next destination is to reach Dhubri, Hatshingimari on Assam Bangladesh border.

Colonel Ranveer Jamwal, who leads the Brahmaputra rafting team said, ‘We started the Brahmaputra River rafting expedition on the 14th of January. The village of Galing, which is the first village of Arunachal, that place from Tibet, Brahmaputra, which is called Siang in Arunachal, the river enters from there. We started it from there.’ 

‘Today we are in Guwahati and there are five more days and we will culminate this expedition to Dhubri Hatsingimari. This is the last point from where Brahmaputra exits to Bangladesh. And this will be the first such expedition which will take the entire Brahmaputra stretch from the first village to the last point of the Indo-Bangladesh border.’ 

Another officer, Colonel R Jamwal said many challenges were faced during the rafting in the Brahmaputra. ‘But still, after passing through all the challenges, we reached here today.’
