Advantage Assam 2.0: State secures MoUs worth INR 5 lakh crore

The Assam government has secured investment commitments worth approximately INR 5 lakh crore through multiple Memorandums of Understanding during the recently concluded Advantage Assam 2.0 summit.

Guwahati (Assam) [India], March 6 (HBTV): The Assam government has secured investment commitments worth approximately INR 5 lakh crore through multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during the recently concluded Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, Industries and Commerce Minister Bimal Borah announced on Wednesday.

Advantage Assam 2.0 was held successfully on February 25-26. Around INR 5 lakh crore worth of MoUs were signed across different sectors. Now, we will scrutinise all the MoUs, department-wise. A committee will be formed, and after the scrutiny, discussions will be held on which projects can be implemented here,’ Borah told ANI.

According to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the summit saw investment commitments and announcements worth approximately INR 5.18 lakh crore.

‘From next month, we will thoroughly discuss the MoUs. These agreements have the potential to generate employment for at least 2 lakh youths,’ Sarma told reporters.

The Chief Minister asserted that Assam will experience significant development over the next five years, even if 70 per cent of the signed MoUs are implemented.

Among the major investment announcements at Advantage Assam 2.0:

  • Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced an INR 50,000 crore investment, including the establishment of a mega food park and a 7-star hotel in Guwahati.
  • Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani committed INR 50,000 crore for investments in airports, an aerocity, defence, cement, and road projects in Assam.
  • The Tata Group indicated plans to set up an electronics manufacturing facility in Assam, with an investment comparable to its under-construction semiconductor plant, for which it is spending INR 27,000 crore.
