Imphal, Manipur, June 12 (HBTV): Amid concerns that the ethnic violence in Manipur would surge again, the state’s Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday said 38 more Myanmar nationals have been deported.

The chief minister posted on his official X handle stating that the government of Manipur had deported 38 Myanmar nationals to their home country Myanmar through the Integrated Check Post, Moreh, today. They have been handed over safely to Myanmar authorities by the Immigration Officers of Government of India posted at ICP, Moreh, the update stated.

Illegal immigration from neighboring Myanmar is a major cause of concern for Manipur, which continues to battle ethnic violence between two communities since May 2023.

Burmese people often cross the border into either Manipur or Mizoram. The native and indigenous people in Manipur feel threatened by a potential disruption of the region’s demography.
