Ten militants were killed in Manipur's Jiribam during an encounter with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Civil Police on Monday, according to the Manipur Police.

Jiribam (Manipur) [India], November 11 (HBTV): Ten militants were killed in Manipur's Jiribam during an encounter with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Civil Police on Monday, according to the Manipur Police.

A press note from Manipur Police stated that a CRPF constable sustained a bullet injury and is currently receiving treatment. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter.

"At about 3 pm, the CRPF Post located at Jakuradhor and Borobekra Police Station in Jiribam District were attacked by armed militants. The security forces retaliated strongly. Due to the attack, one CRPF constable, Sanjeev Kumar, sustained a bullet injury and was evacuated to Silchar Medical College, Assam, where he is under treatment," the press note said.

The attack was fiercely countered by CRPF and Civil Police.

"After 40-45 minutes of heavy exchange of fire, the situation was brought under control. Once the firing ceased, the area was searched, and 10 dead bodies of armed militants were recovered, along with arms and ammunition (3 AKS rifles, 4 SLRs, 2 INSAS rifles, 1 RPG, 1 pump-action gun, BP helmets, and magazines)," it added.

A criminal case has been registered, and the matter is under investigation.

Manipur Police confirmed that operations in and around Jakuradhor, under the Borobekra Police Station, Jiribam District, are ongoing to flush out the remaining militants.

Reinforcement teams consisting of Assam Rifles, CRPF, and Civil Police have been deployed to the area.

Earlier reports had stated that 11 militants were killed in the encounter.

Violence had erupted in the northeastern state on May 3 of last year following clashes during a rally organized by the All Tribals Students Union to protest the demand for the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category.
