New Delhi [India], February 15 (HBTV): Popular YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner Elvish Yadav has been summoned by the National Commission for Women (NCW) over alleged racist remarks against actor Chum Darang, the panel announced. The YouTuber has been asked to appear before the NCW on February 17.

The NCW took cognizance of the issue after Yadav, during a podcast with Bigg Boss 18 contestant Rajat Dalal, allegedly made racist comments about Darang and mocked her. His remarks, which quickly went viral on social media, included derogatory comments about her name and ethnicity. He also ridiculed her role in the film Gangubai Kathiawadi, which led to significant backlash.

Chum Darang, who was also a contestant on Bigg Boss, responded strongly, condemning Yadav’s comments in a statement shared on Instagram. Without naming Yadav, she said he had crossed the line between humor and hate.

‘Disrespecting someone's identity and name is not "fun." Mocking someone's achievements is not "banter." It's time we draw the line between humor and hate. What's even more disappointing is that this wasn't just about my ethnicity—my hard work and a film backed by a visionary like Sanjay Leela Bhansali were also disrespected,’ Darang wrote.

The controversy comes amid an ongoing debate over online content regulation and free speech. It follows another recent incident involving YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, who faced backlash for inappropriate remarks on comedian Samay Raina's YouTube show, India's Got Latent. The video sparked outrage on social media, with even politicians criticizing his comments.

Allahbadia has since approached the Supreme Court, seeking to club multiple FIRs filed against him across India in connection with his controversial remarks.
