Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 26 (HBTV): US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti paid homage to the victims of the 26/11 terror attacks at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai on the 16th anniversary of the tragedy. Garcetti emphasized the US's commitment to combating terrorism in partnership with India.
In a post on X, Garcetti stated, 'Today marks the 16th anniversary of the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai. We honor the memory of the victims lost and pledge to continue the fight against acts of terror together with the Government of India.'
Earlier, Kobbi Shoshani, Consul General of Israel for Midwest India in Mumbai, also paid his respects to the martyrs at Nariman House. Recalling his visit to Colaba shortly after the attacks, Shoshani said, 'I was sent here at Nariman House in Colaba 2-3 days after the event took place. I still remember the smell of ammunition. It was very terrible.'
Shoshani remarked that the terrorists aimed to instill fear and disrupt India's economy. Observing the bustling city life, he added, 'When I see full restaurants, shops, and people moving freely, it feels like the biggest victory against terrorism. The aim of the terrorists was to create fear and break the economy, but India has shown resilience and triumphed over their intentions.'
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also paid floral tributes to the martyrs at the Martyrs Memorial in Mumbai. Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, along with Governor C P Radhakrishnan, participated in the commemorations at the Commissioner’s Office premises.
