Palwal (Haryana) [India], January 4 (HBTV): Amid the controversy surrounding a Dalit girl's suicide in Loharu and allegations that the victim was pressured by college authorities to enter a physical relationship with the Director's son over "unpaid college fees," Haryana Minister Gaurav Gautam called for an inquiry and assured that the state government would deliver justice.
'We stand with the statement made by Krishan Singh Bedi. If the people of Congress are involved in such an incident, then it is condemnable. There should be an inquiry. The government will serve justice,' Gautam stated.
Earlier, Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Krishan Bedi alleged that the college was run by a Congress politician in Fartia Bhima village, under the Loharu assembly constituency in the Bhiwani district.
Bedi claimed that the Director of the college, where the girl studied, was related to Congress MLA Rajbir Fartia. He further alleged that Fartia won elections by propagating that fees would not be charged from SC students and that transport services would be waived.
Speaking to ANI, Bedi stated, 'In a college run by a Congress politician in Fartia Bhima village, a Dalit girl committed suicide because the Director's son Rahul, along with his sister and the Principal, pressured her to have physical relations with Rahul in exchange for waiving her college fees. She was so distressed that she took her life.'
Bedi also accused Congress leaders Kumari Selja and Randeep Singh Surjewala of "hiding" facts and attempting to change the narrative of the issue.
Referring to their tweets condemning the BJP-led Haryana government and calling the incident "shameful," Bedi claimed that both leaders distorted the facts of the case.
'Two politicians from Congress hid these facts and instead tweeted that the Haryana government is trying to conceal the case of a Dalit girl's suicide due to her inability to pay college fees. The truth is that Congress MLA Rajbir Fartia, a relative of the college's Director, won the Haryana assembly elections after spreading propaganda that SC students would be exempted from fees and transport charges,' Bedi said.
Bedi demanded that the Congress leaders delete their social media posts and apologise. 'Selja Kumari and Randeep Singh Surjewala should have demanded the arrest of the culprits instead of tweeting. They don't remember the time when, under Bhupinder Singh Hooda's government, a Dalit girl and her grandfather from Mirchpur were burned alive in broad daylight. Both Selja and Surjewala should take down their tweets and apologise,' he added.
