Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], March 4 (HBTV): The owner of a tattoo shop and his assistant were arrested in Bhubaneswar on Monday after a controversy erupted over allegedly hurting the sentiments of Hindus by creating a tattoo of Lord Jagannath on an inappropriate body part of a foreign national.
Bhubaneswar Assistant Commissioner of Police (Zone-5) Biswaranjan Senapati said that a foreign woman visited the tattoo shop on Sunday and requested a tattoo on her thigh.
‘The owner of a tattoo shop in Saheed Nagar shared a video on social media showing a foreign woman getting a tattoo of Lord Jagannath on her thigh. This hurt the sentiments of devotees. The shop owner, Rocky, and his assistant have been arrested,’ Senapati said.
He clarified that no action was taken against the foreign woman.
‘After making the tattoo, they shared the video on WhatsApp status. We have registered a case under Sections 196, 299, and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the shop owner and the artist for defaming Lord Jagannath,’ he added.
The Jagannath Temple, dedicated to Lord Jagannath, is located in Puri, Odisha.
