The Supreme Court of India has introduced a new symbolism for justice in the country by replacing the blind-folded statue, representing justice, with a new one without blindfold.

New Delhi, India, October 17 (HBTV): The Supreme Court of India has introduced a new symbolism for justice in the country by replacing the blind-folded statue of ady Justice, representing justice, with a new one without blindfold.

The sword in one hand of the statue has also been replaced with an image of the Constitution of India.

According to report, this new statue symbolizes that law in India is neither blind nor punitive. The statue was reportedly commissioned at the orders of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. While Lady Justice has traditionally been depicted with its eyes blindfolded, the new statue has eyes open to spread the message that the law is not blind.

This new statue has received mixed reactions from different political party leaders.

For decades, the Lady Justice statue has been depicted as a woman wearing a white saree, her eyes blindfolded, holding a scale and a sword. The blindfold was meant to represent equality before the law, implying that justice should be delivered without regard to wealth, power, or status.
