Gangtok (Sikkim) [India], November 23 (HBTV): The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), the ruling party in the state, has won two assembly seats—Soreng-Chakhung and Namchi-Singhithang—uncontested after the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) withdrew its candidates ahead of the November bypolls.
Aditya Golay claimed victory in the Soreng-Chakhung constituency, while Satish Chandra Rai won the Namchi-Singhithang constituency, both without opposition.
The two constituencies were initially set for elections on November 13, and the opposition SDF, led by former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, had fielded candidates. However, their subsequent withdrawal ensured unopposed victories for SKM.
The bypolls were conducted for 48 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies across 15 states. Counting is currently underway for 46 of the assembly seats, with the two uncontested Sikkim constituencies excluded from the process.
In other significant contests, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has taken a commanding lead in the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. If she wins, Priyanka will become the third member of the Gandhi family to enter Parliament, following her brother Rahul Gandhi and their mother Sonia Gandhi.
