Shamli encounter: Automatic weapons, pistols recovered by police

Automatic weapons, pistols, and live cartridges were recovered after four miscreants were killed in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district, a police officer reported.

Shamli (Uttar Pradesh) [India], January 24 (HBTV): Automatic weapons, pistols, and live cartridges were recovered after four miscreants were killed in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district, a police officer reported on Tuesday.

The encounter occurred in the early hours of Tuesday in the village of Ud Pur, near the UP-Haryana border, in the Jhinjhana area of Shamli district. According to the police, a car traveling from Haryana was intercepted following inputs about a gang 'planning to do something'. During the operation, a Special Task Force (STF) officer sustained an injury in the firing initiated by the gang. Four miscreants were shot in the counter-firing.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Saharanpur Range, Ajay Kumar Sahni, told ANI: 'The incident took place in the Jhinjhana area of Shamli district. The Meerut unit of the STF received information that a gang was planning some activity in western Uttar Pradesh. At night, when a car coming from Haryana was stopped, the miscreants traveling in the car started firing. An STF officer was injured in the exchange.'

'In the counter-firing, the four miscreants in the car were shot by the STF,' he confirmed.

'We have recovered automatic weapons, pistols, carbines, live cartridges, and a car, which have been seized,' the officer added.

He further stated, 'Procedures are ongoing. Three out of the four miscreants have been identified. All of them had criminal cases registered against them.'

According to the Uttar Pradesh STF, the miscreants have been identified as Arshad, Manjeet, Satish, and one unknown accomplice. (ANI)
