Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], June 5 (HBTV): A medical doctor has been arrested allegedly for surgically removing the wrong kidney of a patient instead of the damaged one in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu during the previous month, police said.

The alleged victim has been identified as one Eid Bano of Rajasthan's Nua in Jhunjhunu district. Bano filed a case against Dr Sanjay Dhankhar, police said.

Updates said Dhankhar, who was allegedly trying to flee, was arrested from Gujarat.

"Eid Bano, a resident of Nua, had complained against Dr Sanjay Dhankhar for negligence in treatment and removing her right kidney. Following this, a team of five doctors investigated the complaint and it was proved that Dr Dhankhar was negligent in treatment. Dr Dhankhar removed the other (right) kidney instead of the damaged one. Following the surgery, the patient Eid Bano's health deteriorated and she was referred to another hospital in a rush," Jhunjhunu Superintendent of Police Rajarshi Raj Verma said.

Verma said the case of medical negligence came to light when the doctors in Jaipur informed Eid Bano about the incident after examining her. Following this, the matter gained media attention and an investigation was launched.

The police registered an FIR into the case. When the hospital was searched, suspicious materials were seized from there. The police reportedly got hold of evidence suggesting tampering of documents and stamps of doctors.

"This proves that Dr Dhankhar not only showed negligence in treatment. He also committed fraud and prepared forged documents," the superintendent of police said.

‘Now, Dr Dhankhar will be presented in the court. He will be brought on police remand,’ Verma said.

The police said that an inquiry also will be launched to find the missing kidney.

According to a press release issued by the police, Dr Dhankhar has a criminal record; two previous cases are registered against him.
