The Raipur Railway Division has upgraded its mechanized BOOT Laundry Plant in Durg to ensure the provision of clean and hygienic bedsheets and other materials in trains.

Durg (Chhattisgarh) [India], December 1 (HBTV): The Raipur Railway Division under the South East Central Railway (SECR) has upgraded its mechanized BOOT (Build On Operate and Transfer) Laundry Plant in Durg to ensure the provision of clean and hygienic bedsheets and other materials in trains, aiming to enhance passenger comfort.

The facility complies with established standards for washing, drying, ironing, and folding linens. Senior Coaching Depot Officer (Durg), Manish Kumar Singharoy, explained that the plant has an 8-ton capacity. Linens, such as bedsheets and pillow covers collected from trains originating in the Raipur division, are taken to a segregation room where they are sorted based on stains and condition before undergoing appropriate treatment.

Following the washing process, semi-dry linens are transferred to ironing machines, after which they are folded, packed, and dispatched to trains.

Of the 14 trains originating from the Raipur division, 11 currently offer linen services. These services are also extended to special trains like the Astha Special and Kumbh Special, as well as to trains from other divisions under special circumstances. On average, the plant processes 12,000 bedsheets daily, Singharoy noted.

Highlighting challenges, Singharoy mentioned the misuse of bedsheets and other materials by passengers, which leads to additional effort for stain removal, early damage to linens, and increased workload for the plant. He urged passengers to use the provided materials appropriately to reduce damage rates and complaints.
