North 24 Parganas (West Bengal) [India], December 14 (HBTV): The mother of the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital expressed disappointment over the CBI's failure to file a chargesheet within 90 days. This delay led to the bail of former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh and Tala police station's former officer-in-charge Abhijit Mondal.
Speaking about the delayed chargesheet, she told ANI, 'We are very disappointed that the CBI did not file the chargesheet in 90 days. The CBI did not do its work, and because of that, those people secured bail. It is very disappointing.'
The delay in filing the chargesheet enabled both Mondal and Ghosh to obtain bail from the Sealdah Court earlier in the day, as the CBI missed the legal deadline.
The case centers on the rape and murder of a trainee doctor, whose body was discovered on 9 August in the hospital's seminar room, triggering widespread protests. Shortly thereafter, Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer at the hospital, was arrested in connection with the crime.
On 29 November, the CBI filed a chargesheet related to financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Named in the chargesheet were Dr Ghosh, along with Dr Ashish Kumar Pandey, Biplab Singha, Suman Hazra, and Afsar Ali Khan. The Calcutta High Court had ordered an investigation into these financial irregularities.
Besides facing corruption charges, Dr Ghosh was also questioned in connection with the murder case, including undergoing a polygraph test. Meanwhile, Sanjay Roy, the main suspect in the rape and murder, continues to deny the allegations. From a police van on 11 November, he alleged, 'It was Vineet Goyal (former Kolkata Police Commissioner) who conspired the whole thing (the rape and murder of the RG Kar Medical College resident doctor) and framed me. They threatened me, and there were other senior officers involved.'
