Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), February 13 (HBTV): President Droupadi Murmu offered prayers and performed the Ganga Aarti at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on Monday during the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela 2025.
Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Governor Anandiben Patel, President Murmu also took a holy dip at the Sangam earlier in the day.
Upon her arrival in Prayagraj, President Murmu was warmly welcomed by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. A statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan shared the details on X (formerly Twitter), confirming her reception.
Following the rituals, President Murmu fed migratory birds at the sacred site, symbolizing her reverence for the environment and the spiritual significance of the event.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, along with his family, also participated in the holy dip at Triveni Sangam earlier today as part of the Mahakumbh. In a conversation with ANI, CM Dhami expressed his gratitude for the experience, calling it a "fortunate" moment. He also mentioned that preparations for the 2027 Kumbh Mela in Haridwar are already in progress.
'People from all over the world are coming here for a holy dip of faith... I consider myself fortunate to be able to come here. The Kumbh of 2027 will be in Haridwar, and we have already started preparations for it,' he said.
According to the Uttar Pradesh government, approximately 8.429 million devotees took a holy dip at the Maha Kumbh on Sunday, bringing the total number of devotees to over 420 million so far. The event, which began on Paush Purnima (January 13, 2025), is the largest spiritual and cultural gathering in the world, attracting pilgrims from around the globe.
The Maha Kumbh Mela will continue until Mahashivratri on February 26, 2025, and is expected to set new records for attendance and participation.
