Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 17 (HBTV): Mumbai Police have taken possession of a fragment of the blade extracted from actor Saif Ali Khan's back following a violent attack at his Bandra residence. Efforts to recover the remaining part of the blade are underway, an official confirmed.
Lilavati Hospital, where Saif is undergoing treatment, stated that a decision on moving the actor from the ICU to a normal ward will be made by his family and doctors later today.
The incident occurred at around 2:30 am on Thursday when an intruder broke into Saif Ali Khan's 11th-floor apartment. The intruder reportedly confronted the actor’s maid, and as Saif intervened to de-escalate the situation, it turned violent. The actor sustained multiple stab wounds during the altercation.
Saif was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove a 2.5-inch blade lodged in his spine and repair damage caused by leaking spinal fluid. Doctors have confirmed that while Saif is out of danger, he remains under close observation in the ICU.
Mumbai Police have registered an FIR regarding the incident and have recorded the statement of the actor’s maid, who alleged that the intruder demanded INR 1 crore from the family.
In her statement, the maid recounted, ‘He ran towards me holding a wooden object in one hand and a thin hexa blade in the other. During the scuffle, he attacked me, injuring both my hands. When I asked him what he wanted, he said, “One crore.”’
The intruder reportedly used the fire escape staircase to enter the apartment. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 9), Dixit Gedam, stated, ‘The incident appears to be a robbery attempt. Ten detection teams are working on the case, and an offence has been registered at Bandra Police Station.’
Police have also formed 20 teams to investigate the case and track down the suspect.
Saif Ali Khan is currently recovering in the ICU, and updates on his health are awaited.
