Mumbai Court sentences ex-CGST Superintendent, wife in disproportionate assets case

The Special Judge of City, Civil & Sessions Court, Mumbai has sentenced two accused to 2-4 years imprisonment with total fine of Rs 2 lakh in a case related to disproportionate assets case.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 24 (HBTV): The Special Judge of City, Civil & Sessions Court, Mumbai has sentenced two accused to 2-4 years imprisonment with total fine of Rs 2 lakh in a case related to disproportionate assets case. 

According to a CBI press release, accused Prasidh Narayan Dubey, then Superintendent of CGST, Mumbai was sentenced to four year imprisonment with fine of Rs 1 lakh and his wife Vimla Dubey to sentenced two year imprisonment with fine of Rs1 lakh.

CBI had registered instant case on 20.02.2018 on the basis of source information against Prasidh Narayan Dubey, then Supdt of Goods and Service Tax, Mumbai. It was alleged that Prima Facie the accused was found in possession of assets to the extent of Rs 90,90,908 / - which were disproportionate to his known source of income. The percentage of DA was arrived at 77.18 per cent. The check period was taken from 17.06.1994 to 23.02.2018. 

After completion of investigation, charge-sheet was filed by CBI on 23.12.2020 against the convicted accused. Thereafter, charges were framed on 16.06.2022 and 100 Prosecution witnesses were examined to prove the charges. 

The court, after completion of trial, held both accused guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
