Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], January 22 (HBTV): A day after a video showing a police constable smoking a cigarette while riding on a moving bike in uniform went viral on social media in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district, the police administration took cognisance of the matter and penalized the constable, an officer said on Tuesday.
The police constable, identified as Jitendra Singh Tanwar, is posted at the Police Radio Training School (PRTS) in the district. In the video, he is seen sitting on the rear side of the bike while the rider poses the iconic gesture from the movie Pushpa 2 with the words 'Jhukega Nahi.' The video was shot by a social media influencer.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Addl. DCP, Crime Branch) Rajesh Dandotiya called both the constable, Jitendra Singh, and the social media content creator to advise them against repeating the act, stating that it tarnishes the image of the police.
'Yesterday, a video went viral on social media, which was also identified by the social media monitoring cell. In the video, a man is riding a bike with a police personnel sitting on the rear side, smoking cigarettes. Upon identification, the police personnel was found to be constable Jitendra Singh Tanwar, who works at PRTS. The constable was called in today, and when questioned, he said that he did not make the video. Following this, the person who made the video, a social media influencer, was also called in,' Addl DCP Dandotiya said.
As the constable was in uniform, his actions tarnished the image of the police. Additionally, traffic rules were violated, as neither of them wore helmets, and a spot fine was imposed by the Municipal Corporation for smoking in a public place. Furthermore, a departmental inquiry has been initiated into the matter.
Regarding the appearance in the video, the officer clarified, 'The video was promoted on social media as a character from the Pushpa 2 movie, 'SP Shekhawat,' and it went widely viral with over 2 crores views. Smoking cigarettes in a police uniform at public places is a violation of the law, and action has been taken accordingly.'
