Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], December 1 (HBTV): A new case has been filed against Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Legislative Assembly Munirathna and six others for allegedly conspiring to murder a former JD(S) Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) contractor and her husband. The charges also include voyeurism and outraging the modesty of a woman.
The Bengaluru police registered the First Information Report (FIR) on Saturday against Munirathna, along with Sunandamma, Venkatesh, Laxmamma, Jayamma, Latha, and others. The MLA had earlier been taken into custody on September 14 by Bengaluru police, with the assistance of Kolar Police, while traveling to Andhra Pradesh, for allegedly threatening a BBMP contractor.
According to Kolar Superintendent of Police B Nikhil, the fresh case includes charges under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), such as 354A (sexual harassment), 354C (voyeurism), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 149 (unlawful assembly), 384 (extortion), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide).
Previously, Munirathna and three others faced charges under IPC sections 37 (cooperation in committing an offense), 506 (criminal intimidation), 505 (statements conducive to public mischief), 385 (putting a person in fear of injury to commit extortion), 420 (cheating), and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt).
The allegations stem from a complaint by a BBMP contractor who accused Munirathna of demanding a commission of INR 20 lakh in connection with a contract. The contractor alleged that while he offered INR 1 lakh, Munirathna insisted on the full amount.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
