Haryana, India, October 8 (HBTV): The Election Commission of India (EC) has started counting of votes to the Haryana election, the results of which would be declared on October 8 itself.
The main parties in the Haryana assembly elections are the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Indian National Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party, the Jannayak Janta Party, and the Indian National Lok Dal. The BJP is looking to secure a hat-trick to form the government in the state. Its main rival the Congress is hoping to end its decade-long drought in Haryana and secure power.
Exit polls predict a clean sweep for the Congress in Haryana, with some suggesting the party may win more than 50 of the 90 seats in the assembly.
According to The Mint, TV-Today C-Voter projection indicated that the Congress may secure 50-58 seats in the state, while the BJP is expected to win 20-28 seats. The seats a party needs to win to form a government in Haryana are 46.
As per the latest trends given by the Election Commission, at 11.10 am, the BJP is leading with 49 seats, the Congress party with 35 seats.
Congress leader and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda exuded confidence on Tuesday and said that there was no doubt that the party will form the government in Haryana with a huge margin.
Some exit polls indicate a possible Congress victory. However, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini of the BJP has dismissed the exit polls.
Haryana's 90 constituencies witnessed polling on October 5, with a voter turnout of 67.90 per cent. A total of 1,031 candidates, including 464 independents and 101 women, competed in this high-stakes election.
