Olympic medalist shooter Manu Bhaker's maternal uncle, Yudhveer Singh, and grandmother, Savitri Devi, tragically lost their lives in a road accident on Sunday, officials reported.

Charkhi Dadri (Haryana) [India], January 22 (HBTV): Olympic medalist shooter Manu Bhaker's maternal uncle, Yudhveer Singh, and grandmother, Savitri Devi, tragically lost their lives in a road accident on Sunday, officials reported.

The incident occurred on the Mahendragarh bypass road in Haryana's Charkhi Dadri when a scooter collided with a car. According to officials, the car's driver fled the scene following the accident.

Upon receiving information, police arrived at the location, took possession of the deceased bodies, and sent them for post-mortem. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.

Manu Bhaker, known for her achievements in shooting, made history by becoming the first Indian woman shooter to win an Olympic medal in the women's individual 10m air pistol event. She secured third place, opening India's medal tally at the Olympics. Additionally, she and Sarabjot Singh earned a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol (mixed team) event, marking India's first-ever shooting team medal.

On January 17, Manu Bhaker, along with World Chess Champion Gukesh Dommaraju, Indian men's hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh, and Para Athlete Praveen Kumar, received the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award from President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Expressing her gratitude on Instagram, Bhaker stated:"I am deeply honoured to have received the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award from the honourable president of India @presidentofindia. This recognition inspires me to work even harder and strive for more victories to make my country proud. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported, guided, and cheered for me throughout my journey. Thank you."
