Chandigarh (Haryana) [India], December 17 (HBTV): Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur on Sunday chaired a meeting in Chandigarh to discuss the effective implementation of three new criminal laws, controlling violent crimes, and advancing the drug-free state campaign, according to a press release.
During the meeting, necessary guidelines were issued to senior officials. Officials and superintendents of police from across the state participated via video conferencing.
Reviewing the state’s drug eradication efforts, the DGP emphasized that making Haryana drug-free is a top priority. While acknowledging commendable progress, he stressed the need for more strategic efforts.
He urged police officials to focus on making villages and wards drug-free by educating the public about the dangers of drugs and cracking down on smugglers. Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) were directed to take strict action against drug sellers, including pharmacists distributing banned substances.
The DGP instructed SSPs to meet with drug sellers to explain legal provisions and directed police officers to engage with youth and children in their respective areas. He emphasized counselling and treatment for drug-addicted individuals through OPDs or district-level rehabilitation centres.
Station House Officers (SHOs) and Deputy SSPs were encouraged to visit villages regularly, fostering relationships with residents to gather essential information that could help combat drug-related issues.
On implementing three new criminal laws, the DGP stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs has set a target to develop Haryana as a model state for this initiative. The laws are to be fully implemented in the state by February 28, 2025.
The meeting featured a detailed discussion on the e-Sakshay app, its functionalities, and its role in facilitating the implementation of the new laws. The DGP also highlighted the significance of the case diary module and the videography of evidence collection. He stressed the importance of comprehensive training for officers.
Kapur stated that the new laws would strengthen the justice system and provide speedy justice. He assured that Haryana Police have adequate resources to enforce the new laws and pledged additional support as needed.
Regarding crime control, the DGP reiterated the importance of preventive measures and urged strict action against offenders. He emphasized zero tolerance for law and order violations and discussed strategies to counter evolving criminal tactics.
Senior officers, including MD HPHC OP Singh, CP Panchkula Rakesh Arya, SP Nikita Gahlout, AIG Admin Himanshu Garg, and AIG Provisioning Kamaldeep Goyal, were present at the meeting held at Police Headquarters.
