New Delhi [India], December 1 (HBTV): A Haryana delegation, led by the state's Environment, Forest, and Wildlife Minister Rao Narbir Singh, departed from Delhi on Sunday to attend the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) - COP-16 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The conference is scheduled from December 2 to 13, according to a statement from the state government.
Before departing, Singh commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiatives to combat climate change, emphasizing his vision of a developed India by 2047. He called for developed nations to provide technical and financial support to developing countries to strengthen the global response to climate challenges.
Highlighting India's progress, Singh referred to the National Solar Mission and the Jal Jeevan Mission as examples of impactful climate initiatives under Modi's leadership. He reiterated India's commitment to the Paris Agreement's goals and described COP-16 as an important platform for global cooperation and knowledge sharing.
'Tackling climate change requires collective action and cannot be addressed by any single nation,' Singh stated.
The conference is expected to foster collaboration among Green Zone businesses, scientists, financial institutions, NGOs, and communities to develop sustainable solutions for land restoration and drought management.
The Haryana delegation includes Anand Mohan Sharan, Additional Chief Secretary of the Environment, Forest, and Wildlife Department; Randeep Singh Jauhar, Chairman of the Haryana State Biodiversity Board; Vivek Saxena, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Secretary of the Haryana State Biodiversity Board; and Dr. TP Singh, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests.
