The Haryana Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, approved an ordinance to amend the Haryana Contractual Employees (Security of Service) Act, 2024, during its meeting in Chandigarh.

Chandigarh (Haryana) [India], December 31 (HBTV): The Haryana Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, approved an ordinance to amend the Haryana Contractual Employees (Security of Service) Act, 2024, during its meeting in Chandigarh on Saturday.

The amendment replaces the phrase “in a calendar year” with “during a period of one year of contractual service” to address concerns raised by contractual employees regarding the calculation of their service days, according to an official release.

Currently, employees have requested that the 240-day service requirement be calculated based on the actual number of days worked during a one-year contractual period, rather than a calendar year. The existing system has posed challenges for employees who joined between May and December, as their service days for the first year were not fully counted. For instance, employees joining after May and before December could not meet the 240-day service requirement for their first calendar year, impacting their job security.

Furthermore, for the year 2024, employees raised concerns about the cut-off date of August 15, 2024, as it provides only 227 days, falling short of the required 240 days.

In response to these legitimate concerns, the Haryana Cabinet approved the amendment to calculate 240 days of service within a one-year contractual period. This change aims to address these issues and provide better job security for contractual employees.

Under the Haryana Contractual Employees (Security of Service) Act, 2024, contractual employees who complete five years of service before August 15, 2024, are eligible for job security benefits. (ANI)
