ED arrests two in West Bengal school recruitment case

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], November 30 (HBTV): The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Kolkata, has arrested two individuals in connection with the West Bengal school recruitment scam, officials said.

Prasanna Kumar Roy, a middleman, and Chandan Mondal, his main agent, were arrested on November 28, 2024, and November 26, 2024, respectively, in connection with the Group 'C' and 'D' Posts Recruitment scam under the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC). Both were presented before the Hon'ble Special Court (PMLA), Kolkata, which granted ED custody until December 2, 2024.

The ED's investigation was initiated following two FIRs filed by the CBI under various sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The case involves the illegal appointment of undeserving candidates for Group 'C' and Group 'D' Posts in government schools in West Bengal, depriving deserving candidates and violating relevant rules.

CBI chargesheets revealed that a total of 3,432 candidates (1,125 for Group 'C' and 2,307 for Group 'D') were illegally appointed or recommended in criminal conspiracy with officials of WBCSSC.

In connection with the case, the ED has provisionally attached immovable properties worth INR 163.20 crore, including land parcels, hotels, and flats, held in the name of Roy, his family members, and his company, M/s Durga Dealcom Private Limited. Additionally, immovable properties worth INR 230.60 crore, owned by Roy and his associates, were attached in the assistant teacher recruitment scam. The total attachment in this case stands at INR 393.80 crore.
