New Delhi [India], November 28 (HBTV): Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was sworn in as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. She took her oath while holding a copy of the Constitution, marking her formal entry into the Parliament.

Present at the ceremony were her mother Sonia Gandhi, brother Rahul Gandhi, and her children, Raihan Vadra and Miraya Vadra.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra secured a decisive victory in the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, defeating Sathyan Mokeri of the Communist Party of India (CPI) by a margin of 4,10,931 votes. Wayanad, a Congress stronghold, saw a three-way contest between Priyanka Gandhi, BJP's Navya Haridas, and CPI's Sathyan Mokeri.

On Wednesday, Priyanka expressed her gratitude on receiving her election certificate, describing it as a symbol of love, trust, and shared values. 'My colleagues from Wayanad brought my certificate of election today. For me, it is not just a document; it is a symbol of your love, trust, and the values we are committed to. Thank you, Wayanad, for choosing me to take forward this journey to build a better future for yourselves,' she wrote on X.

The Wayanad seat was previously held by Rahul Gandhi, who shifted to contest from Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, in this year's general elections.

Congress leader Ravindra Vasantrao Chavan also took his oath as a Member of Parliament after winning the Nanded Lok Sabha seat in a by-election. Chavan secured 5,86,788 votes, succeeding the late Vasantrao Balwantrao Chavan, whose passing necessitated the bypoll.

The by-elections, held across 48 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats in 15 states, included significant contests in Uttar Pradesh and Kerala, with Priyanka Gandhi making her electoral debut in Wayanad.
