Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], December 18 (HBTV): As minimum temperatures dip to single digits in the northern plains, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday inaugurated and inspected several night shelters while distributing blankets and food to the needy in Gorakhpur, accompanied by local MP Ravi Kishan.
While reviewing the facilities at the night shelters, CM Adityanath issued strict instructions to officials to ensure proper maintenance without negligence.
Interacting with the media, he stated, 'Today, I got the opportunity to inspect and inaugurate some of the night shelters along with the local MP and MLA... Although PM Awas Yojna, both Urban and Rural, has been implemented effectively under the leadership of PM Modi in the last 10 years - 56 lakh families have been provided houses and 4 lakh more families will be provided soon - despite all this, street vendors or those who come from other places and cannot afford hotels - these rain shelters are some help.'
The UP government has allocated sufficient funds across districts to aid the poor during the severe cold spell.
'All the districts have been provided with enough funds to distribute blankets - made in UP - to those in need,' he added.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also distributed blankets to destitute and homeless individuals living in slums at ISBT, Dehradun, late on Tuesday evening, according to a statement from the CMO.
CM Dhami inspected the night shelter at Transport Nagar ISBT, assessed various arrangements, and inquired about the well-being of its residents.
He further instructed officials to distribute blankets, warm clothes, and light bonfires to provide relief from the cold. Arrangements for passengers at ISBT were also directed to be enhanced, the statement added.
