11 married women take PMAY scheme money and elope with lovers

As many as 11 married women in Uttar Pradesh have eloped with their lovers after receiving the first installment of INR 40,000 from the Central government's houisng scheme, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Chumoukedima, Nagaland, July 9 (HBTV): As many as 11 married women in Uttar Pradesh have eloped with their lovers after receiving the first installment of INR 40,000 from the Central government's houisng scheme, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme, also called PMAY.      

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is a credit-linked subsidy scheme of the Government of India to facilitate access to affordable housing for low and moderate-income residents of the country.

The scheme gives assistance to poor and middle-class families to build permanent houses. The instance of these marred women leaving their husbands and running away with their lovers came to light after their husbands filed reports with the police.               

The beneficiaries reportedly belong to the Thuthibari, Sheetlapur, Chatia, Ramnagar, Bakul Diha, Khasra, Kishunpur, and Medhauli villages. A similar incident took place during the previous year in Uttar Pradesh when four married women ran away from their homes with their lovers after receiving money from the PMAY scheme. Reportedly, the four women ran away as soon as a grant of INR 50,000 landed in their bank accounts.
