Chumoukedima, Nagaland, April 5 (HBTV): The Wokha district authorities have issued a set of guidelines to regulate water supply from Wokha town’s only spring, the Etsuchukha water source, following what is said to be water scarcity hitting residents.
An order from the deputy commissioner of Wokha dated April 5 mentioned ‘significant reduction in water quantity’ at the spring. This has led to concerns about the supply of water for the public, the order stated.
As a measure to regulate and maintain the supply, for judicious and “hygienic use of water”, the deputy commissioner has warned against unauthorized drawing of water in any form using water pumps or pipes at the source. This is strictly prohibited with no exception for private entities and water tankers.Washing clothes or bathing at the water source area is also strictly prohibited, the order stated. Further, disposal of any kind of waste inside the Etsuchukha spring compound is strictly prohibited, the administration stated.
Strict penal action shall be initiated against those who violate this order, the administration warned.
The Wokha Public Health Engineering Department is directed to supervise and monitor the supply to ensure strict compliance. It has been asked to impose punitive actions against offenders in accordance with departmental rules, the deputy commissioner stated.
“Further, PHED shall bring out regulations and instructions regarding supply of water for consumers,” it stated.
