Kohima (Nagaland) [India], December 16 (HBTV): On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, a commemorative event was held at the Zakhama Military Station, featuring tributes and celebrations organised by the Red Shield Division of the Indian Army, according to a press release.
Governor La Ganesan, the chief guest, was welcomed by the Station Commander of Zakhama Military Station. The ceremony began with a solemn wreath-laying at the Orchid War Memorial, where the governor paid homage to soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation.
Students from Loyola School, Zakhama, showcased the region's cultural richness and patriotic spirit through a traditional Galo dance and a moving mime performance. Soldiers added to the festivities with an exhilarating Khukri dance, reflecting their indomitable spirit.
In a gesture of respect, the Governor honoured veterans of the 1971 Indo-Pak War and paid tribute to the parents of Kargil war hero Capt N Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), along with Veer Naris from Nagaland. He also interacted with serving soldiers and their families, the release added.
Vijay Diwas marks India's decisive victory over Pakistan during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The 13-day conflict ended with India’s historic triumph, leading to the surrender of approximately 93,000 Pakistani soldiers in East Pakistan, now Bangladesh.
