Kohima, Nagaland, March 6 (HBTV): Minister KG Kenye raised concerns over the unchecked growth of unions and associations in Nagaland, calling it a major financial and social burden. Speaking on the floor of the House, he revealed that out of 7,952 registered societies, only 2,030 are active, while the rest have become defunct.

Highlighting the excessive expenditures on annual conventions, festivals, and emergency meetings, Kenye urged a reality check. He stressed that while social organizations play a role their uncontrolled expansion has led to financial strain and misplaced priorities. He advocated for strategic consolidation, focusing on district-level tribal bodies rather than redundant unions across multiple locations.

The minister also warned against the commercialization of Naga culture, emphasizing that true cultural values—honesty, hard work, and integrity—must be preserved over mere performances.
