Kohima, Nagaland, March 4 (HBTV): Former Education Minister Imkong Imchen has criticized the massive redeployment and rationalization of school teachers in Nagaland, calling it a bureaucratic exercise rather than a rational one.

Speaking from his experience as former minister-in-charge of Education, Imchen said that while policies from the Ministry of Human Resource Development aim to streamline education, they often fail to align with the unique realities of a hilly state like Nagaland. He pointed out teacher deployment discrepancies, especially in the rural areas, and warned that transferring teachers along with their posts could severely impact the education system.

"Under the pretext of central guidelines, the student-teacher ratio does not match the ground reality. Are we here to nurture students or to destroy academic life in the state?" he questioned.

Imchen urged the department of School Education to clearly outline specific issues and solutions instead of making generalized decisions that disrupt the learning process.

Reiterating the role of the 60 elected representatives in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, he emphasized that all members are equally responsible for shaping policies that genuinely benefit the education sector.
