Kohima, Nagaland, March 4 (HBTV): Out of 1,925 schools in Nagaland, a staggering 157 schools have zero enrollment, while 1,123 schools fall under low-enrollment category-C. The state has 1,31,613 students and 18,140 teachers, averaging one teacher per 7.25 students.

The advisor for School Education & SCERT Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome gave the details during his address to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, highlighting key issues and initiatives.  

To improve efficiency, 1,650 teachers have been transferred, while 120 schools have been closed, merged, or downgraded. The government is now prioritizing rationalization of teachers, ensuring better distribution across schools.   

The SMILE app, equipped with real-time geo-fencing technology, will monitor teacher attendance, marking a significant step toward digital governance in education.

Dr. Yhome emphasized the need to strengthen government schools and reduce dependency on private institutions, urging policymakers to ensure quality education and better staffing patterns across both urban and rural areas.
