Imphal, Manipur, December 18 (HBTV): Following reports of Indian security forces recovering a Starlink device from Imphal East district, Space X founder and billionaire Elon Musk has said that Starlink’s satellite beams are turned off over India.
Musk was responding to an X post by a user Deepshikha who stated that "Starlink is being used by terrorists. Hope, Elon @elonmusk looks into it and help control misuse of this technology."
Musk replied "this is false. Starlink satellite beams are turned off over India."
The development came in the wake of recovery of a high-tech communication device linked to global satellite internet services during a combing operation in Keirao Khunou in Imphal East district few days back.
Besides a cache of arms and ammunition including grenades, the forces seized a router and antenna during the operation.
Police had said "one internet Satellite Antenna, one internet Satellite Router and 20 meters (approx.) of FTP cables were recovered from Keirao Khunou, Imphal East District." They shared a photo of it.
While authorities did not mention "starlink" in their official statement, social media users quickly pointed to the name tag "Starlink" written on a router that was seized during the operation.
The photo with the router having the name of Starlink soon went viral.
Starlink is a product of Musk's SpaceX company, which provides uninterrupted global internet and communication services, officials said.
