Kohima [Nagaland], June 28 (HornbillTV): Late Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse remembered on his death anniversary at Phezha village on Monday in Kohima.
Commemorating the death anniversary of the brave son of Nagaland, a solemn ceremony was organized at the War Memorial of Captain Kenguruse at Phezha village where wreaths were laid by Neiselie Kenguruse, father of the Captain; Maj Gen VPS Kaushik, Sena Medal, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North); Brigadier Vinod Bajiya, Sena Medal, Deputy Inspector General Assam Rifles (North); and Brigadier Abhinav Gurha, Commander of the 5 Sector Assam Rifles.
On the day, the Assam Rifles also conducted a Covid-19 vaccination drive for Army personnel and villagers. In addition to this, to reach out to the local ex-servicemen a grievance cell was established at the location.
The event also witnessed distribution of essential medicines and COVID relief material to the ex-servicemen and the locals. To encourage local women for recruitment into the Corps of Military Police a registration drive was also undertaken at the camp. The event culminated by administering vaccine to the people.
Kengruse, was awarded Maha Vir Chakra posthumously for his unmatched courage and supreme sacrifice in the face of the enemy during the Kargil War, in true traditions of the Indian Army.
After completing his graduation, Neikezhakuo started working as a teacher at the Government High School at Kohima from 1994 to 1997. However, deep down in his heart, he was loaded with the spirit of nationalism. He convinced his father that the honour of serving in the armed forces outweighs the risk that the job entails and appeared for his Combined Defence Services Examination in 1996, and joined the coveted Indian Military Academy, Dehradun in Jun 1997.
Kengurüse was commissioned into Army Service Corps of the Indian Army on 12 December 1998, 2nd Rajputana Rifles battalion
